August 12th marked our one year anniversary of being home from Mexico. It was a little surreal to be honest. In so many ways this has been the longest year of our lives, the most challenging, & the most interesting. Much more challenging than our year-&-a-half in Mexico. Don’t get me wrong, Mexico was challenging, but in a different way.
But there have been some major highlights in coming home. To name a few:
On a lighter note
o Rudy’s Mexican Food, In-N-Out, Chipotle, El Pollo Loco…
o Target!!!
o Rudy, our 2003 Honda Civic. We laid Sally to rest shortly after we got home from Mexico. She was a trooper & made quite the trek in & out of Mexico twice.
On a little more serious note
o Getting to pay our bills online
o Living life in English. We miss using our Spanish tremendously (though we both get to use it fairly often), but being back where everything is in your own language is an amazing feeling.
o Target!!!
On the best & most important note
o Living ~7 minutes from my Mom/Gram & ~14 minutes from Brother/Sister-in-law/3 nephews
o Unlimited access to spending time with friends & family. (Not to mention a trip to WA to celebrate Matt's Grandma's 80th birthday, a trip to AZ to see friends from Mexico, & a trip to Chico to celebrate a friends/coworkers wedding!)
o Coming back to our Canyon Breeze Church family & living true community with them
o And of course, medical assistance in our fertility journey. And our little boy is due late December! J
I could list a lot of things. The truth is, home will always be home. We miss a lot of things but we also love a lot of things. We’re still in transition. But when we hit that year mark we realized we need to look forward & not as much backward (a hard thing to do at times).
So here’s to the future. There are exciting things a-brewing, especially this little guy marinating inside of me. Our prayer is that God continues to bless our time here & guide us in our future. There are still so many unknowns but we want to make the most of this season, however long it may be.
