Sometimes...
...I wake up in the morning & all I can think about is Mexico.
...I question our purpose in life right now & how God is working.
...I wonder how much longer this season will last.
It's been 6 months & 12 days...that's how long we've been home. It's been tough. I'll just be honest, it's been an interesting season for us. We knew that transition back home would be difficult, but you never really know until you're in it.
This has been a Season of Lazarus. John 11 talks about a sick man named Lazarus who later dies. When Jesus received word of Lazarus's sickness, vs 6 tells us that he stayed where he was for 2 more days! Jesus waited. He knew Lazarus was sick. He knew that he was dying. But Jesus just sat there.
How often do we translate "delays" in life as if God just doesn't care? When we feel like God hasn't moved in the timing He should have, we feel like He has forgotten us. Martha felt like that. In verse 21 she says, If you had been here, my brother would not have died. But it wasn't a matter of Jesus not caring enough, it was a matter of priorities.
Sure Jesus could have arrived that day & healed Lazarus from his sickness. But how much greater was it when He raised him from the dead?! Sometimes God waits to move so that His glory will be that much greater. God often has to delay His work in us, in order to achieve something that could only happen in the delay. If God always gave us what we asked for & when we wanted it, there wouldn't be a need for God. We would lose sight of Him completely.
So when we feel like God is holding us back or keeping us from something great, the truth is He is! He wants us to delight in Him in the delays, knowing that the longer we have to wait is so His glory will be that much greater.
So, in this Season of Lazarus, we wait. We know that God is working. We know that His plan is greater than anything we could ever imagine. And we know that His plan is perfect. So as we wait, we will strive to delight in the delay. After all, it's been 6 months & 12 days...

Hi Angie & Matt - Very good words about the Season of Lazarus. These are often hard lessons for me to learn. So much so that when Matt was teaching at BF several years ago, I wrote down a couple thots aabout this that stuck w/ me. He said that to wait on the Lord is really the "perfection of activity". What he was saying is that what we're waiting for is not more important than what is happening to us while we're waiting.
